Bread

Leavened bread is strictly prohibited, however there are a wide variety of breads prepared without leavening agents that are allowed on the Daniel Fast.

Bread that is unleavened is made without leavening agents, such as yeast or sourdough culture, which allow bread to rise. Leavens literally add air to the baking bread. All unleavened breads are flatbreads, however all flatbreads aren't unleavened. So, even though pizza crust, crepes and pancakes are flat, most recipes for these distinctive breads include either an organic or chemical leaven.
