Processed Food

Do I make everything from scratch? No. Have I tried? Yes.

The Daniel Fast food list is often the subject of much debate. People can sometimes get so obsessed with what can and cannot be consumed that the ultimate purpose can often be overshadowed. Unless you have a garden and the proper kitchen tools and appliances, you can't avoid purchasing processed foods.

If you're like me, you don't always have the time and resources to make everything you eat from scratch. I remember my first attempt at making a vegan lasagna. I made everything [except the lasagna noodles] from scratch. I even made a ricotta cheese alternative using cashews. It took forever and I couldn't stop smiling. I was so proud of myself that I completely ignored the messiest kitchen I've ever seen- just to gloat to all of my carnivorous family members, and friends. I was a stay-at-home mom back then, so I had way more time to prepare meals.

Fast forward to today: as a working mother, my days are super hectic. By the time I get home, I don't have time to spend hours making everything from scratch. Not to mention, I still want variety. As a result, I make time to read nutrition labels and buy everything that can save time and effort. If all of the ingredients listed are natural (and within the Daniel fast guidelines), it's in my shopping cart. I typically purchase things like applesauce, canned and frozen fruit and vegetables, peanut butter, and unsweetened plant-based milks.

I encourage you to make as much as you can at home; however, don't feel ashamed to purchase certain processed foods from your local grocery store. Most important: READ THE LABEL!
